The Choral Society of the Hamptons has announced the winners of its 2006 vocal competition scholarships.  Alice Falcone of Aquebogue and Christopher De Rosa of Hampton Bays were chosen from a field of six to receive a $500 stipend each for vocal studies.

Christopher De Rosa sang "This is the Moment" from Jekyll and Hyde.  His

presentation was flawless, and his stage-presence unusually mature.  Mr. De Rosa has participated in many performances with the Quogue Junior Theatre Group.  He will be attending Wagner College, the top-ranked university for musical theatre, as a scholarship student this fall, majoring in performance in the Theatre Program.

The other winner, Alice Falcone, who attends Riverhead High School, sang an aria from The Marriage of Figaro.  The soprano's performance was very developed.  She is a member of several choirs and the drama club at the high school, and has represented the school in the All State Choir.  After graduation in 2007 she plans to attend college as a music education major, but does not rule out performing.

The Choral Society of the Hamptons, now in its 61st year, initiated this scholarship four years ago.  The program solicits recommendations from vocal teachers in each high school.  Winners are encouraged to make choral singing part of their life styles, and to join the Choral Society during and after college.
